The Nissan IDX concept. I normally don't get excited about concepts...

I hope they make it and it looks at least similar to this. I also just watched /Drive's Detroit Auto Show 2014 vid and they made an interesting point: IDX is 510 in roman numerals. Excite!

There's a good chance it'll use the Juke engine. And I'm glad that powerplant is making it's way through the Nissan lineup. It's phoenominal.

I want one.

Depending on price and what internals it finally ends up with, I may have one in my driveway.

I will be trading my ST in for this if everything goes right with it.

I've heard good things about it, it makes me wish the juke looked less... well... like a juke.

MR or HR engine? I worry about the MR, because it's largest bore seems to be 84mm. Worse for the HR engine, which bores out to 79mm. That limits the MR to a 1800cc capacity unless you start going undersquare. They're already low-revving engines, so that does not bode well if they want to turn it into a serious performance engine like the SR20 was.

I'd much rather see them adopt the QR engine, which has a wider bore and shorter stroke than the SR20 did. If Nissan adopted a crazy-enough top end, they could wring the QR20 out to 8000rpm with those dimensions by just meeting (not exceeding) the 20-year-old SR20's rev potential. There's no reason that I'm aware of that the QR can't be as powerful as the S15 SR20, if not more powerful, and offer better economy.

But I could be wrong, I haven't tore the two blocks apart (or seen a detailed comparison) to show why the QR hasn't been utilized to its potential yet.

I actually like the look. I really wish the the Nismo came with AWD/6MT as a combo.

It's an MR. And the engine already puts out close to 200hp in the Nismo engine, and supposedly more if they ever make the Nismo RS or whatever they wanna call it. The potential is there, but it won't be like the old Japanese setups of high revving and turbo. :\

Right, forgot about the Nismo version.

Looking at the recent engines from BMW, Ford, Nissan, and Honda, I think you're right. We're at a point where RPM is more of a limit of valvetrain than the bottom end, or at least, the disparity is larger than before.

I've been excited about this since first seeing the concept. Being a college student most classes are spent dreaming about what car I will buy once I get out in a couple years. All I want is a small light affordable rear wheel drive manual and I can't stop dreaming about this possibility now. It's tied at the too now with a brz.

On another note though why can't American car companies make a small light rwd car. Make a focus or fiesta rwd not just bulky stangs chargers or camaro. Why can't we have a fun to drive affordable rwd car.

Small displacement turbocharged engine have made it so that the old rules don't apply. It's a crazy time we live in. :\
